SFPUC Wins Communications Award for 100 Years of Clean Power Campaign

The SFPUC’s Communications team supporting the Power Enterprise won the American Public Power Association’s 2019 Excellence in Web and Social Media Communications Award. The annual awards recognize utilities that demonstrate outstanding work in print, digital, web, social media, and video communications. This is the second year running that the SFPUC has been honored, and this year the Agency was awarded the top recognition in the Web and Social Media category for the “Celebrating 100 Years of Clean Power” campaign.

Launched in September 2018, the campaign promoted the SFPUC’s long history of providing clean energy to San Francisco through Hetch Hetchy Power. Three mobile tricycle sno-cone machines stationed across the City offered residents a rainbow of “Power-ful” flavors like “Hetch Hetchy hibiscus” and “renewable raspberry.” Banners depicting buildings and services powered by Hetch Hetchy Power provided an opportunity to engage residents about the SFPUC’s work while they enjoyed the icy treats. A key goal of the campaign was to generate buzz with new audiences and maximize reach beyond in-person interactions. Using a combination social promotion, videos, brand ambassadors and influencers, the campaign generated over 385,900 impressions! And, we’re proud to say, this was the first time that the SFPUC was featured in EaterSF.

Through this quirky, innovative campaign, the SFPUC positioned itself as a forward-thinking public agency, while spreading awareness of its long history of providing clean power to San Francisco.
